Comfort is always our # 1 priority with typical folding chairs. Whether using camp chairs for camping trips, a folding chair for ball games or hiking trips, or a lawn chair for sitting on a deck, it HAS TO BE COMFORTABLE. While weight, portability, packability and price are also important, I won’t even bother looking at most chairs unless it’a a comfortable chair. Thankfully, the CLIQ Chair surpasses expectations in this regard. Not only does it provide greater stability and comfort compared to other similarly sized chairs we’ve tested, but it also outperforms many of our favorite full-sized models in the same categories. The CLIQ chair arrives at the same conclusion that it gets an A+ for comfort. It sits nicely, and the ability to lean far back with your legs stretched out makes it a a comfortable seat for a nice long sit.
When it comes to portable options, stability is a crucial factor. When fully weighted, the CLIQ Chair feels incredibly sturdy. I exerted significant effort to lift any of its four legs off the ground.
Despite its solidity, the CLIQ Chair doesn’t feel rigid. The seat offers a natural flex, allowing you to comfortably lean forward or settle into a seated position.
Regarding the actual sitting experience, the CLIQ Chair promotes a more natural seated posture compared to other chairs in its size category, including the highly regarded REI Flexlite or another form or a helinox chair.
If anything, the CLIQ Chair provides a relaxed sitting experience, enabling you to lean back in the pod-style seat, reminiscent of a black bear leaning against a tree.
The seat itself is wide, featuring flexible and low-rise sides that allow you to leave your knees out, unlike alternatives in the same size category that often have steep walls, restricting leg movement.
We have spent a significant amount of time with the CLIQ Chair, between sports practices and car camping trips, and find it difficult to pry ourselves away from the CLIQ and settle for anything else, solely based on its outstanding qualities.
With its high-quality materials and unique design, the CLIQ Chair is a delightful paradox. It manages to be firm yet forgiving, compact yet comfortable, small yet spacious. It successfully balances many of these “convenience” factors without compromising the forward-thinking comfort that is essential in any chair.
The only area where the CLIQ Chair falls slightly short, especially if you’re considering it as an alternative to a full-sized camp chair, is its low back support. While it avoids the common issue of supports digging into your mid-back due to its generous width, the CLIQ Chair only reaches the middle of my shoulder blades. Additionally, it sits relatively close to the ground, although not exceptionally so compared to other chairs of similar proportions. However, compared to ultralight models, getting in and out of the chair poses no difficulty. We were found it immediately surprising when we pulled it out of the nondescript brown box, set it up, and tested it. With a optional 45 day full refund, and a free bag if you purchase 2 or more, we felt we could not go wrong.
Both fortunately and unfortunately CLIQ came out with a headrest and cup holder model after we had already purchased the original. Apart from that, we have absolutely no complaints about its comfort.
Weight and Packability
While maybe not the smallest or lightest chair available, the CLIQ chair offers notable advantages in terms of its relative low weight and easy portability. Although I wouldn’t recommend taking the CLIQ chair on a two week backpacking trip (or any chair for that matter), it serves as an excellent alternative to bulky ballpark or folding chairs.
Weighing just 3.5 lbs, the CLIQ chair is less than half the weight of other full-sized models on the best-of list and packs down into a water bottle size. A patented design, super sturdy, tested extensively, it falls into the compact lightweight category for packing.
Speaking of weight, let’s discuss the materials. In our experience, CLIQ chairs are incredibly durable compared to backpacking and full-sized foldout alternatives. The struts are constructed from thick strips of aircraft-grade aluminum, a stark contrast to the ultralight poles commonly found in similar chairs we’ve tested.
The fabric used in the CLIQ chair is noticeably more robust than that of most other chairs. Made of ballistic nylon, a material often used in high-stress textiles like chainsaw chaps, it adds to the overall density and sturdiness of the chair without compromising its portability.
Impressively, the CLIQ chair collapses down remarkably well. Despite its wide seat and rotund design, it packs down to a compact size, even when compared to popular ultralight models like the Chair Zero. This means you can enjoy the convenience of a fold-out camp chair without sacrificing space in your daypack or the trunk of your car. CLIQ offers a range of products to assist in carrying your chair, which we will explore in more detail later.
Setting Up Your CLIQ Chairs
One of the key selling points that CLIQ Chair highlights is its quick and effortless setup process. While it’s not a “set it and forget it” type of foldout chair, assembling a CLIQ foldout chair is straightforward and doesn’t require much guesswork. Even without instructions, we could figure out the entire setup without any significant difficulties, similar to setting up a tripod or telescoping camera pole for the first time. In other words, we believe even an 8-year-old would have little trouble putting it together, although younger children might struggle.
The legs and back struts securely attach to the central support, and despite the apparent complexity with numerous hardware and moving parts, detaching them is as easy as pressing the large button located near the bottom of the locking mechanism. Once detached, you simply pull the collapsed supports around the seat and back until they lock into their fully extended positions. Once the arms are locked out, the legs remain fixed in place thanks to the same central locking mechanism that keeps them collapsed when the chair is packed up.
We will however admit that we have not been able to accomplish a one handed ‘fling’ setup like you see in the ads. We are unsure if the CLIQ ultralight chair was tweaked so the individual could take it out of it’s bag and fling their wrist as to make the chair just pop open to it’s full size. None-the-less, we can still set the chair up in less than 10 seconds and are unconcerned with being able to accomplish an instant setup.

Despite its many advantages, the CLIQ Chair comes with a higher price tag than many other portable chairs. At its full price, the chair costs a $109, although it frequently goes on sale for a substantial $40 discount. If you buy multiple CLIQ chairs, you receive discounts accordingly. When purchasing 2 chairs, the price drops to $99/chair, 4 chairs, the price drops to $93/chair, and 6 chairs, the price drops to $89 each. When considering its value, we can only assess it through comparisons. If we take into account the convenience, durability, and high production costs associated with this product, the price tag becomes more justifiable, especially if you manage to purchase it at a discounted price.
While you can find chairs that offer similar comfort or chairs that are easily portable for a significantly lower cost, you won’t find anything that combines both qualities at any price point.
It’s also worth mentioning that CLIQ has come out with a luxury version more recently that has a head rest and a cup holder. Also built from the same stable design as the original cliq folding chair where the legs click firmly into place, this more pricey cliq portable chair, is a fantastic option for beach days, a camping trip, or the perfect chair frame to rest after a long day of hiking on that backpacking trip. It falls more in the full sized folding chair class.
